Stokksnes Peninsula – Iceland
Stokksnes Peninsula is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful locations on the southern Iceland. It’s one of those places where the mountains meet the ocean – my favorite combination.
How To Get There
To get to the Stokksnes peninsula you need to drive the road no. 1 and then a gravel road (for about 5.3km from the exit). It is not one of the F roads and in a pretty good shape, therefore no need for a 4×4 to get there. The exit from 1 is more less 450km from Reykjavik. Check the map above.
At the end of the road you’ll find a small car park for normal and camping cars as well as a free toilet. It is a private area and the price for night/person is 1200 ISK. There’s also a possibility to book a small “barrack” (metal box with a window 😉 ), there are a couple of places like that in the area. The reception is open for most of the day and you’ll also find there a mini bar/restaurant where a breakfast is served in the morning. More information can be found on their website.
To get to the most famous spot, from everyone wants to take a shot, you’ll need to drive another few hundreds meters through a gravel road. To enter the road you’ll have to pay 800 ISK for the ticket. I have to admit however, the view is worth every single Icelandic crown 🙂 Besides, as I mentioned before, this is a private area and the owner is keeping it in a pretty good shape for tourists.
Below I attached a few pictures of that amazing place 🙂
